About
About
The Taisetsu Art Museum has a permanent exhibition of several dozen artworks. The museum is set in an old house, and is a unique space where traditional Japanese architecture and art come together in harmony. We introduce artists who continue the art that has developed since ancient times to the present day.

Artist Profile
The Taisetsu Art Museum mainly exhibits works by Taoist and Buddhist painter Sesshu Tenkei. Tenkei is the first Japanese artist to have his work permanently collected by the Prado Museum in Spain, and his achievements have been remarkable. Tenkei's Taoist and Buddhist paintings uphold the orthodoxy of ink painting since Sesshu, and the high level of artistry has earned him high praise from experts in Japanese Buddhist culture regardless of sect, including the inscription of his paintings by Arima Raitei, head of the Shokokuji sect of one of the Kyoto Five Mountains and a man with a deep connection to Sesshu.
Collection
Introduction
The collection of the Taisetsu Museum of Art is a collection of works that Director Mizushiro Yuki has been collecting for many years. In 2015, we opened the Kurano Doll Museum. We would like to show off the works we have collected. Last year, in 2023, we exhibited Hori Ryujo's work "Birth Prayer" at the Shibuya City Shoto Museum of Art exhibition "Borderless Dolls".
The new museum is a new building that has been renamed the Taisetsu-ro, formerly the Doll Museum in Kura, and a renovated old house next door, which has been renamed the Taisetsu Museum.
Taisetsu-ro and Taisetsu Art Museum were named after the Taoist and Buddhist painter Sesshu Tenkei, with whom we have had a long-standing relationship.
The new museum will have a permanent exhibition, including the permanent collection. There will be planned and special exhibitions, and artworks that customers can purchase will also be on display. Works that are not for sale and works that can be purchased will be exhibited together. This will be an unprecedented attempt to integrate a museum and a gallery.
We operate by reservation only, and aim to allow each customer who makes a reservation to take their time enjoying the exhibits.
