Taoist and Buddhist Painter Sesshu Tenkei

SESSHU TENKEI

Born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1961. Studied Zen under the guidance of Buttsuji Temple Master.

In 2006, he was appointed to the name "Tendo Daiichiza" by the Tendo Zen Temple in China. He studied under the head priest of the Shokokuji school, Arima Yoritei. He was bestowed the name "Tenkei" and in 2019, he was appointed to the name "Sesshu" by the same teacher.

In 2012, he held a solo exhibition entitled "Shichiruido Tenkei Exhibition: Its Divine Colors One and Only" (Jotenkaku Museum of Art).

In 2018, 32 sliding door paintings were completed at Ryosokuin Temple, Kenninji Temple (project ongoing).

His main collections include the Prado Museum in Spain. He is the director of Kyoto's Genkakuro.
